Game Table

We play enough cards and games in our family that I felt it only necessary to have a decent table to play on. With the boredom winter brings, and an extreme need to take my mind off other stressful things going on (there are quite a few), I decided to take on another project.

It turned out pretty good, and I am overall pleased with it as It was what I pictured in my head. I created the felt in Photoshop with a few stock images meshed together. I don’t know why but I am really into the Baroque Period symbols and art. It gave me most of the inspiration behind choosing the crest along with the embellishments and things I added to the table, and of course the fleur de lis.

I am barely getting around to post a few pics of our fabulous trip to New York. Wicked was awesome how have I not seen this musical before?

It was funny, We had the picture below on our Desktop after the trip, and a guy came over using our computer and was like, he who is that guy you are giving corn nuts too? He looks hungry…the funny thing was he was dead serious and no clue who the guy was…

…or that he has been dead for 60+ years

It has been a long year of solid work and no breaks and Hailey and I have finally found a few days to go on a Vacation. My mom and sister in law are coming over to our house to watch the kids and we are headed to NEW YORK. After almost 2 years of no vacations we are exited to get out and see the city.

I thought the below was quite humorous…. Can you guess which 4 days we will be in New York?

Does anybody know where I can get an Umbrella?

Settlers of Catan

So this last week Hailey was sick. It was funny because I went to get up and go to work and she asked what are you doing? When she found out I was leaving her at home with two boys while being sick she almost had a conniption.

Needless to say it is pretty boring at home while watching two boys so I decided to improve on one of our favorite games: Settlers of Catan.

If you have ever played it you know it takes a bit to setup, the pieces are flimsy and if you have kids you might as well forget it. Well, we are short on time, I hate playing with paper crap, and kids – well, have you met our kids.

I came up with this idea to take every hex piece and mount it to a piece of 1/4″ MDF to make each piece more solid. It was good in theory but each piece had to be exact in order to make the board work and cutting hex pieces is not easy with standard tools. (somebody please buy me a cnc router for Christmas next year)

The solution:

After cutting each piece into a rectangle I made a table saw sleigh to push the pieces through the table saw. It worked like a charm. I had to cut over 80 pieces which works out to be 480 cuts. (6 cuts per piece)

It took a bit of cutting but I got through it.

The board:

For the board I took a piece of 1/2″ MDF and got out the ol’ router. I set it to 1/4″ and routed the perimeter of the board then the entire center. It took a while too and sent sawdust all over the place in my garage.

After that was done I painted and routed the edge, put a nice profile on the whole thing. I glued the borders on then glued the wood, brick, gold, ore, deserts, water, wheat, and sheep to the hex blocks I just cut out.

I worked out marvelously and the best part is we can through them all on the ground and let our kids set up the board for us. They love it. Then when it is set up we can move it wherever we want to play. Never though you could move a “Catan” board after it was set up did ya. No wrecking the board when it gets bumped, no worrying about the game getting messed. It is awesome.

New Years Eve Jessica and Tyler announced they are going to have another little one runnin’ around in 9 months.

Here are our Goals for 2011

Family Goals:

  1. Don’t let 2011 be as horrible as 2010. Last year was probably one of the hardest years of my life and I don’t ever want to do it again. Looking back I am hoping the trials we went through will help us in the future, but I definitely don’t think I could handle them again.
  2. FHE every week. We have just not been good at this one.
  3. We haven’t done family prayers before, and are going to start.
  4. Temple once a month.
  5. Not get Pregnant. We are going to all work as a team for this one.

Hailey’s Goals:

  1. Do Speech with Parker Every Day ( I can’t believe he can’t talk yet)
  2. Spend more time with the Boys.
  3. Do activities with Logan to help him Learn every day
  4. Visiting teaching every month (this one is Original folks)
  5. Sriptures 2x per week

My Goals:

  1. Talk to 300 businesses per month.
  2. Start one of the two Business Ideas I have right now. ( have already partially done this)
  3. Drink 4-6 cups of water per day. This may seem easy to most, but I really believe I went weeks last year without having a single sip of water. My body is turning into 92 percent Pepsi.
  4. I would like to read 4 books this year. I really don’t read a lot of books for enjoyment, so they will definitely be learning books, but whatever gets ya going in the morning.
  5. Don’t Repeat Last Year
  6. Develop new marketing Campaign each month for Insurance – I still can’t believe people are paying what they do
  7. Only eat one snack after dinner, instead of my usual 8
  8. I am going to lose 16 pounds by March 3rd 2011.
  9. I will compete in a mini Triathlon this year.
  10. Plan our next family trip and buy the tickets.

A few more New Year’s Eve Pictures

Christmas 2010

We really enjoyed Christmas this year because Logan actually understood what was going on a little bit more. The night before we told him Santa was coming and put him to bed, and he actually fell right to sleep.

Around 12:30 we heard him crying in his room. I went in there to find puke all over the place. We took him straight to the tub and put his bedding in the wash. As soon as he got out, I asked if he wanted to sleep with mommy and daddy. He said,”No, I want to sleep in the front room.”   (that is where Santa comes). He assured me he was all better – the funny thing is, he really was all better and seemed just fine.

Could he really have thrown up on cue just to get to see Christmas a little early???

Cabin at Timberview

This October Hailey and I got the sweetest deal on a Cabin near Ashton, Idaho. It was a place called Timberview. The cabin we stayed in was super sweet, and they even had a VCR. I was so impressed. The next morning we woke up and got to go on one of the prettiest golf courses I have ever seen. WITH A GOLF CART. It was phenominal. Unfortunately my 9-iron didn’t think so. Somehow this year I completely lost my golf swing…how does that happen?

Anyway. This whole package only cost us $25. Cheers to Timberview. It was amazing.

Blastoff With Mason

Mason had his B-day party at Blastoff. You can’t tell by looking at it, but Parker is saying CHEESE!

Danny’s Hot Tub

This summer we went over to Danny’s hot tub again. It was pretty fun for the kids. I am still not sure why we need to throw the moss all over each other, but we still do. Don’t worry we found out the insect eggs Hailey found in her hair weren’t hazardous in anyway.

Boy Meets Girl

The neighbors went north to Canada for Thanksgiving (yes it is hard to have foreigners as neighbors), but it left us with a small dilemma. Normally Logan plays with Daisy (their daughter) every day. He just hasn’t been able to grasp the concept that she isn’t home this week. Every morning he wakes up and gets dressed and ready to go play.

Unfortunately for us we live in this bitter cold state of Idaho. This morning was no different than the rest of the mornings this week. Logan got up and got dressed and said, “I’m going to see if Daisy is home yet.”

Sure enough he went outside and walked clear over there in 0 degree weather just to see if his Daisy was home. I couldn’t help but taking pictures of his footsteps on the way over there (it is hard to see them because it is blowing so hard, it blew most of them in).

They better get home quick before my boys freezes to death looking for the love of his life. I don’t know what we are going to do if they actually move. (you like the subtle use of the word if)
