Robertson Publishing began in the mid 1970s. Our office was in downtown Los Gatos, California, just 50 miles south of San Francisco. At that time we were designing and manufacturing books for Sky Oaks Productions, a publisher of educational materials. In 1988 we came out with Ellipsis..., a literary magazine published as a series of books, and we've been in the publishing business ever since.

Over the years the industry has changed and we've changed with it.  We no longer have to print hundreds of books in order to offer our authors the best print price.

Once we have your Press-Ready PDFs you could be holding the PrePress copy of your book in two to three weeks. After you approve the PrePress we'll release the title for full distribution here in the US, the UK, Canada, and Australia. About two weeks later you'll see your title on Amazon, Barnes&, and many other sites. When orders for your book start coming in we'll handle fulfillment, track your sales, then we'll send you quarterly sales activity reports with your royalty check.

If you want to revise or add to your book after it has been out for a while, no problem, just send us the changes and we take care of the rest. The next book printed will be your revised edition.

Scheduling a Book Signing Event? You can order as many books as you need, when you need them. Any time, any quantity. The books will be on your doorstep in about 10 business days so plan your orders accordingly. Allow extra time for holidays, and remember you can always have your books shipped to a specified destination.

The barrier to entry has been lowered. It's much easier to get published with Robertson Publishing than with the traditional publishing houses or by trying to self-publish on your own. Our knowledge and experience of customer needs and printing issues is vast.

In 2015 we moved our office to Fremont California.
We're here to serve new and existing authors in any way we can.

Did you know . . .

"Rich Dad Poor Dad" author Robert Kiyosaki hadn't done well in high school English class and didn't see himself as a good writer.

Same thing with Jack Canfield. 144 publishers rejected 'Chicken Soup for the Soul' before he finally found a publisher.

Tim Ferriss was able to move forward writing 'The 4-Hour Workweek' only by promising himself he'd write "two crappy pages a day."

Lisa Nichols was a single mom on government assistance who thought "Who cares what I have to say?" Today she's a New York Times bestselling author who consults foreign governments and inspires people around the world.

These now-famous authors had one thing in common...
they didn't let fear, doubt or procrastination stop them from moving forward.

The History of Children's Book Week ~ "A great nation is a reading nation."

In a small library on a November afternoon in 1921, a stiff-lipped lady was busy with her scissors, shearing off the bottom third of Jessie Willcox Smith's poster for Children's Book Week. A poster showing books scattered in joyous abandon on the floor was more than she could bear to display!

Our attitude toward children and their enjoyment of books has undergone considerable change since that day. The creation and growth of Children's Book Week has both resulted from and influenced this transformation.

Since 1919, Children's Book Week has been celebrated nationally in schools, libraries, bookstores, clubs, private homes-any place where there are children and books. Educators, librarians, booksellers, and families have celebrated children's books and the love of reading with storytelling, parties, author and illustrator appearances, and other book related events.

It all began with the idea that children's books can change lives. In 1913, Franklin K. Matthiews, the librarian of the Boy Scouts of America, began touring the country to promote higher standards in children's books. He proposed creating a Children's Book Week, which would be supported by all interested groups: publishers, booksellers, and librarians.

Mathiews enlisted two important allies: Frederic G. Melcher, the visionary editor of Publishers Weekly (the publishing industry trade journal), and Anne Carroll Moore, the Superintendent of Children's Works at the New York Public Library and a major figure in the library world. With the help of Melcher and Moore, in 1916 the American Booksellers Association and the American Library Association cooperated with the Boy Scouts in sponsoring a Good Book Week.

At the 1919 ABA convention, the Association committed to the organization of an annual Children's Book Week. A few months later, the official approval of the American Library Association was also secured during its first Children's Librarians session.

In 1944, the newly-established Children's Book Council assumed responsibility for administering Children's Book Week. The CBC has developed materials and promoted and encouraged local celebrations of Book Week ever since. In addition, the CBC serves as a year-round promotion and information center about children's books and children's book publishing.

Also in 2008, the Children's Book Council created the Children's Choice Book Awards, the only national child-chosen book awards program, giving young readers a powerful voice in their own reading choices.

The need for Children's Book Week today is as essential as it was in 1919, and the task remains the realization of Frederic Melcher's fundamental declaration: "A great nation is a reading nation."
